Short description
Mycobacterium avium Complex (MAC) refers to a range of different mycobacteria species, which are capable of causing infection and diseases in a wide array of animals.
General information
Mycobacterium avium Complex (MAC) refers to a range of different mycobacteria species, which are capable of causing infection and diseases in a wide array of animals. Dogs are mostly resistant to MAC infection. However, certain lineages of (Miniature) Schauzers show increased vulnerability to developing these infections. Research has shown this susceptibility to be caused by a recessive mutation to the gene CARD9.
